13 May 2019 – The number of reported measles cases in the United States rose to 839 last week, the highest annual total in 25 years, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s the highest number since 1994, when 963 cases were reported throughout the year, according to the Associated Press. Last week, most of the 75 new cases occurred in New York, the AP reported. Many of these cases were among the unvaccinated in New York’s Orthodox Jewish communities, according to the CDC. Measles has been reported this year so far in 23 states.
