In this study, researchers at the University of Minnesota studied the impact of fatty foods and starvation on CBD uptake. In 2018, CBD capsules were approved by the American Food and Drug Administration for use in patients with seizures, but it was unclear how they were affected by the absorption of the drug. According to a study published in the August issue of Epilepsy, there was no difference in mental function in patients who had taken CBD after eating or starving. “For patients with epilepsy, one of the goals is to maintain a constant concentration of drugs in the blood,” says Birnbaum. The co-author of the study, Ilo Leppik, said that a greater absorption of CBD could lead to a reduction in the cost of drugs. “The type of food can be important for the amount of CBD absorbed by the body. Birnbaum and Leppeak are professors in the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology.
